In 2013 Carlos Zapién was appointed Director of Music of the Cathedral of Saint Augustine (Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson, Arizona). In this capacity, supervises the music program and he directs both the Cathedral and Diocesan Choirs. Prior to his arrival to the United States of America, from 2006 until 2013 he was the Director of Music for Catholic Services at The Most Holy Trinity Catholic Community at USAG Stuttgart, Germany. He has served as organist at the Catedral del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús and the Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción in Ciudad Obregón and Mazatlán, respectively, and he taught music at the Seminario Franciscano de la Provincia Fray Junípero Serra. Carlos Zapién is an active composer of liturgical music, having composed the Mass of the Most Holy Trinity, the Misa al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, Veni Creator Spiritus and The Voice of the Poor, among others.
In 2014 Carlos Zapién founded the Schola Cantorum Cathedralis, a select group of singers who contributes to the great choral tradition of the Roman Catholic Church. As the highly specialized vocal ensemble of the Cathedral, the Schola performs works of composers such as Palestrina, Lassus and Victoria, as well as contemporary repertoire.
